SEGA has updated the Yakuza Kiwami 2 website with a ton of new information regarding the upcoming enhanced remake of Yakuza 2. The update focused on detailing what was new about Sōtenbori, Osaka, a location that returns from Yakuza 0 (it’s where Majima’s story took place). This included details on new mini-games, substories, and restaurants.
As far as new businesses go, there’ll be several new locations to shop at. These include a new Takoyaki shop, a Japanese BBQ place (Gyu-Kaku), and a new drug store called Tsuruha Drug. Mini-game wise, players will want to check out the Yokobori Golf Center, which features two different golfing challenges: one where players try to get closest to the pin, and another where players attempt to score a “bingo” by shooting at a target. Finally, Sōtenbori is the home of Four Shine, the location where the new cabaret club mini-game will take place.
One of the new substories was also shown off on the website. In it, Kiryu gets scouted by a photographer that’s looking for a male model. In typical Yakuza fashion, hijinks ensue, and it turns out that the photoshoot is rather unconventional. It looks to be a blast, since fans will get to see Kiryu perform some special poses.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will also feature a new story focusing on Goro Majima. Check out more details about the remake’s major addition:
A lot was teased in the recent Yakuza Kiwami 2 story trailer that SEGA released during Tokyo Game Show 2017, and now we have some additional information. As shown in the trailer, the remake of Yakuza 2 will have a greater focus on fan-favorite character Majima, and some familiar faces will reappear from Yakuza 0. Titled “The Truth of Majima Goro,” the story (which takes place two months after the events of Kiwami) will focus on Majima’s rise and subsequent clash with the Uematsu family.
Perhaps the most exciting news is that Makoto Makmura, who starred in Yakuza 0, will make a reappearance. No longer blind, the masseuse now works in Sotenbori as a chirporactor. Other characters confirmed for the new story are Ryouta Kawamura, a young clan member of the Majima family that acts as his driver, Kei Iibuchi, another clan leader that has a working relationship with Uematsu, and finally Akinobu Uematsu himself, a Tojo Clan leader that currently earns the most money.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will release December 17, 2017 in Japan. No North American release has been announced, but you can pre-order it at Play-Asia.
