Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently set up a new label, Portkey Games, which will oversee a series of mobile and console video games in the Harry Potter universe.
Company president David Haddad said that he is excited to release the upcoming games in response to fan demand. “With Portkey Games, we are thrilled to answer the fans’ requests for more games inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World,” he said. “We are working with talented creators to build games that focus on player-generated stories, which will live alongside the magical universe created by J.K. Rowling.”
In a blog post, Warner Bros. also explained the meaning behind the new studio’s name:
So named because Portkeys transport wizards from place to place, Portkey Games will give Harry Potter fans the chance to be transported into the wizarding world and placed at the centre of their own adventure. The games will vary from mobile to console games, and will feature both new characters and – excitingly – could feature familiar characters ‘at different points in their lives’ from the Harry Potter stories.
As well as the familiar, you’ll also be able to visit new locations and explore new story elements, again, all inspired by the wizarding world.
No further details are available at this time.
