Koei Tecmo Games has recently posted a tweet on their official Twitter account that confirms the final number of Dynasty Warriors 9‘s character roster, which reads as follows:
The new characters that have been revealed for
#DW9: Zhou Cang, Cheng Pu, Man Chong, Xun You, Xu Sheng, Cao Xiu & Xin Xianying. In total, there are 90 playable characters.
Koei Tecmo has been adding a brand-new character to the roster almost every month. However, with this announcement, it has been set in stone that Dynasty Warriors 9 will have a total of seven brand-new characters. The new characters are as follows:
- Zhou Cang (Shu Kingdom) – A former Yellow Turban member who later became Guan Yu’s closest retainer.
- Cheng Pu (Wu Kingdom) – A veteran general who, together with Huang Gai and Han Dang, served three generations of Sun Jian, Sun Ce, and Sun Quan.
- Xu Sheng (Wu Kingdom) – A general who was best known for setting up a fake long wall that tricked Cao Pi to withdraw his army.
- Man Chong (Wei Kingdom) – Xu Huang’s old friend, a strategist who excels in overseeing defensive battles.
- Xun You (Wei Kingdom) – Xun Yu’s cousin who together served Cao Cao as fellow advisors.
- Cao Xiu (Wei Kingdom) – Cao Cao’s cousin who was infamous for being tricked by Wu’s Zhou Fang at the battle of Shi Ting.
- Xin Xianying (Jin Kingdom) – A wise lady who lived through the establishment of Jin Kingdom and advised her family members such as Xin Chang and Yang Hu to survive and advance their careers.
After the initial news that all 83 characters up until Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires are returning without any cuts (after the fiasco that was Dynasty Warriors 6 which cut a number of characters from the roster), that means Dynasty Warriors 9 will have a grand total of 90 playable characters. When grouped by their kingdom affiliations, the full list is as follows.

We expect to also see the new designs for the remaining 15 characters listed above in the coming months as we draw nearer to Dynasty Warriors 9‘s release date. This latest installment in Dynasty Warriors series that features an all-new open-world exploration will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in North America and Europe on February 13, 2018. Japan and the rest of East Asia will get the game five days earlier on February 8, although it will be released exclusively on the PS4 in the East.
