After the success of Call of Duty: WWII, the community behind the franchise has now turned its sights to what can be next for the series, and if a rumored source is correct, it will be a return to the world of Black Ops. According to multiple sources confirmed by Eurogamer, the next game in the Call of Duty series will be Black Ops 4.
Information about Black Ops 4 first surfaced online this week in a Twitter post by “industry insider” Marcus Sellars. In a series of tweets, Sellars revealed that not only is Black Ops 4 the next game in line for the series, but that it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch as well (a rumor no one has been able to verify as of yet).
COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

While Activision has yet to confirm or deny the rumors, it wouldn’t be too surprising given the fact that thanks to the three-year development cycle, Treyarch – the folks behind the Black Ops series – is the studio working on the 2018 Call of Duty title. The Black Ops storyline has covered a ton of ground in its settings, ranging from the Cold War all the way to the year 2065, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what this next game will be centered around. We’ll make sure to update the story further when more information is released.
What do you think? Would you be excited about returning to the Black Ops series, or are you ready for something new from Treyarch? Let us know in the comments below.
