Weekend Rewind is PlayStation LifeStyle’s weekly wrap-up of the biggest news of the week. We’ll make sure you didn’t miss any of the biggest stories from the last week while providing a little bit of additional commentary and flavor.
This week was a big week for Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man finally got a release date, and Game Informer has started to release a month’s worth of details for their cover story on the game. An old Insomniac property was given new life as Activision announced Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Honestly, we all knew it was coming, but it’s nice to finally have it officially in the open.
Looking to the future, details on the PlayStation 5 allegedly leaked out, locked behind a site that requests a $1000 subscription to read. We normally wouldn’t put any stock in such a bizarre occurrence, but this same site has been right about a number of other hardware leaks, so there’s something to back up their claims.
Cleaning up the news, Far Cry 5 broke record sales, becoming the fastest selling Ubisoft title ever. Blizzard also revealed in an interview that they were working with AI and algorithms in an effort to combat Overwatch toxicity. This week also brought a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus free games, which went live on Tuesday. There were a lot of announcements for new games this week too. Check out the slideshow below to press rewind and read this week’s biggest stories.
Weekend Rewind will publish each Friday afternoon, looking back at the previous week’s worth of news to pull what we feel are the biggest stories of the week. Feel free to discuss each of these topics and more in the comments below. Was there any notable news we missed? Which story was the biggest for you this week?

PlayStation 5 Details May Have Leaked
While the PS4 is still launching a number of great games, sights are obviously set on what comes next. Obviously Sony is hard at work on the next generation PlayStation, but the question is how far along they are. Have dev kits really gone out? Will it be backwards compatible with digital and physical PS4 games? These are questions we may not learn the answers to until Sony announces it themselves.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy Announced
We all knew this one was coming. We've know it for a while, it's just nice to have official confirmation. I'm eager to see if Toys for Bob's work on the classic Spyro Trilogy lives up to the amazing work that Vicarious Visions did with Crash. A bar has been set and a certain level of quality is now to be expected.

Middle Earth Shadow of War Microtransactions
This can be taken one of two ways. Either you are happy that the company has seen the light and is removing this element from their game, or you think it's a PR stunt designed to boost sales and renew conversation around the game nine months after release. Either way, it's great to see the studio continuing to support their game and making positive advancements to it.

Far Cry 5 Smashes Sales Records
While the game has its share of problems, there was no doubt that it would do commercially well. The unique setting alone (even if underutilized completely) guaranteed attention and interest. At the end of the day, Far Cry 5 is simply fun to play, and that's really what matters most.

Hitman Published by Warner Bros.
Here's an unexpected one! Hitman is now under the Warner Bros. umbrella after getting ditched by Square Enix. The new episodic/seasonal direction the franchise took was an unusual one, but has garnered a lot of interest. It will be interesting to see what else happens with the series under the new publisher.

Blizzard Testing AI to Battle Overwatch Toxicity
Like something out of a dystopian-future novel, Blizzard wants to teach machines when players are engaging in toxic behaviors. On the one hand, automation can provide a ton of benefits in a system that is inherently flawed because it relies on humans. On the other, nuance and context are devilishly difficult to teach to an AI, so it could result in false positives. I think there's a place for the technology, but they need to use it carefully.
