CD Projekt Red Targets Current-Gen Release for Cyberpunk 2077

After shocking the audience with a surprise reveal at the end of the Microsoft E3 2018 briefing, CD Projekt Red continued to show off their upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077 throughout the week. While the gameplay was held behind closed doors, the footage of the show – as described by those in attendance – was the clear hit of the show, with excitement for the game reaching new heights by the time E3 was over.

Now that everyone is returning home, many folks are wondering if, thanks to its ambitious designs and great demo, maybe Cyberpunk 2077 won’t actually release for this console generation. Speaking to Game Informer on the issue, quest designer Patrick Mills wasted no time in confirming that CD Projekt Red is very much aiming to get the game released on consoles out right now.

“I’ve heard a number of people say that,” Mills said. “The current console generation is what we’re aiming for. We are aiming for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and of course PC as well.” Of course, the wording is important here, and just because the company is aiming for a current generation release doesn’t mean it will happen. No concrete release information has been announced, and with the game just being shown off for the first time this past week, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see it get pushed back.

Still, it’s good to hear that the company is focusing on trying to get the game out now. While it might not work out that way, fans can rest easy knowing CD Projekt Red is definitely trying their best.
