Cyberpunk 2077 Romance

Cyberpunk 2077’s Romance Options Are More Varied Than The Witcher

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance

Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be quite the role-playing marvel. News of CD Projekt RED’s latest continues to roll out, specifically with regards to character. A mercenary named V leads the title’s futuristic open-world, allowing players to choose gender and a backstory. Details concerning V’s origin will affect the way in which NPCs in the world react to him/her. Of course, player choice doesn’t stop there. Upgrade options for class, weaponry, and more will encourage gamers to play as they wish. But it wouldn’t be CD Projekt RPG without romance. If it’s a Cyberpunk 2077 romance you want, then it’s a Cyberpunk 2077 romance you’ll get.

In the Witcher series, Geralt’s sexuality and romantic preferences are preset. He romances women, any woman will do–even a succubus, should the player let Geralt’s curiosity get the better of him. In Cyberpunk 2077, however, things change. This is most notably apparent because now there is the choice of a male or female character to role-play. Yet, romance possibilities could venture deeper than that. Talking to GameInformer, the game’s quest designer, Patrick Mills, teased the various romance options.

“Similar to the Witcher, but with more diversity,” Mills said. “There are a lot more options. You know, you’re defining your own character here, which means defining their sexuality any way you want. With Geralt, you had a character whose sexuality was very well defined by the novels and the short stories and the previous games. But in this one, it’s up to you to decide. We’ve got NPCs that are gay, we’ve got NPCs that are bi, we’ve got NPCs that are straight, because we want them to feel real and that they have preferences as well.”

The possibilities are expansive. Mills notes that one-night stands and fleeting romances are just as viable as full-blown relationships that last the duration of the game. “We’re aiming for big, complicated relationships that continue over the course of the game, but also casual encounters that don’t matter that much,” Mills continued.

What could be more complex than a love triangle between Geralt, Yen, and Triss? We’ll find out once Cyberpunk 2077 launches on its still unannounced release date.
