There are games everyone loves but you hate out there for everyone. Games or series where the world keeps telling you how amazing or classic it is, and how you would be a fool not to love it to infinity and beyond. However, different strokes for different folks I always say, so we decided to hash out those hyped forms of entertainment that despite Zack Morris levels of popularity, we just couldn’t force ourselves to enjoy.
This conversation ended a little bit bloodied and sans a few teeth, but in the end, we all came out friends, I think. Anyway, enough rambling from me. Here are our staff picks for hyped game or series that we just can’t stand or couldn’t get into.

Final Fantasy VII
Cloud was the most god damn annoying, whiny-ass manchild I've ever encountered and I was glad when Aerith died. Like legit whoops of joy left my mouth.

The Last of Us
Blood, gore and Guns. At one point in my life that would have been totally cool with me, but we have reached a point where the violence can actually be too visceral for me to stomach. It is official: I have become my parents. I get why people love it, but if it makes my insides churn, count me out.

Bloodborne
Yes, it's really really difficult but that doesn't mean it's inherently fun to get your ass kicked over and over and over again. Call it controversial, but I would be content with the game if it had a checkpoint system. I know it defeats the purpose of the Souls series but I just don't have the time to wade through 45 minutes' worth of mobs just to get to a boss that can kill me three hits. It's something I could do without, and the elitism that comes with (some) sections of the community just has me steering clear of the series altogether.

Grand Theft Auto V
It was really a toss-up between two Rockstar titles, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption. While I dislike both titles, I think my frustration with GTA V is higher. I just don’t get the love for the game, I can’t stand any of the characters, and I personally find Saints Row to be a better series for this type of game.

Dishonored
The game never really hooked me. I can see why people love it, but for some reason I just got overly frustrated with trying to be stealthy, failing, and then going all in on killing everyone. Hard to say there's a beloved series that I really "hate" that everyone else loves, but there are some that just aren't my flavor fiesta.
I also can't really engage much with the Fortnite hype. Battle Royale as a mode seems fun, but as the entire central construct of your game? I can't buy into it personally. Again, it's something where I see the appeal; it's just not made for me.

Dark Souls
Before everyone shouts “GET GUD, SCRUB!” at me, the idea of challenging combat is about all I actually do find interesting in the Dark Souls series. Everything outside of that – from the presentation, to the execution of that combat, to the general jankiness - just leaves me cold. I’ve owned all three games, giving up on each one when I realized that I was only forcing myself to keep playing in order to try to work out why my friends were constantly telling me how incredible the games are.
I've resisted so far, but the same thing will doubtless happen with Dark Souls Remastered. I know that I'll cave and end up buying it, since I'm not very bright and learning lessons is not my forte.

BioShock Infinite
Alternate universes are my plot kryptonite, so when that was introduced, I became almost immediately uninterested. I finished it in hopes that everything would come together, but instead all I saw were glaring plot holes and more reasons to dislike alternate universes.

DmC: Devil May Cry
Ninja Theory not only managed to fundamentally misunderstand what made the DMC games fun to play, but also slathered a grimy layer of outdated-even-then edgy affectation that totally killed the vibe despite some fun environmental design. The series barely survived, and I’m glad Itsuno and his team are back in action to save it.
BioShock Infinite - Never before has a video game so undeservedly spent its running time reveling in itself. For as much fun as swinging on rails and shooting people was, 95% of the game expecting you to waft its farts as much as it does itself was as unbearable as the game ultimately shrugging at its own flimsy politics in favor of dc comics-ass multiverse sci-fi was hilarious.

Overwatch
I wouldn't say hate, not even close (that status is reserved almost exclusively for Yorbie: Episode 1 - Payback's a Bolt), but I can't really get into Overwatch. The characters are great, the shooting is solid...But it has never really grabbed me the way it has grabbed others. I'll play every now and then, but never for a very long time before I want to move on to something else.

The main reason for me not liking it is that I gave it my best shot and actually I started to like it. Then it just got too weird. I refuse to provide additional reasons.

I couldn't get into The Last of Us even though it was a pretty solid game. It's probably just that the zombies thing isn't my cup of tea.
