Japanese sales chart shows PS4 sales improving

PS4 Sales Improving in Japan, but Switch Still Dominates the Region

Let’s have a look at how consoles are doing in Japan! According to the latest Media Create sales figures for the week of August 13-19, 2018, this seem to be proceeding as usual. The Nintendo Switch is maintaining its lead. However, unlike in the previous weeks and months, the PlayStation 4 is doing a bit better, in terms of sales.

The Media Create news sales chart shows that Sony’s PlayStation 4 has seen a jump in base model sales, with just under 21,000 units sold (as opposed to the just over 16,000 it sold previously). This definitely makes it a bit of an improvement over the previous months. Have a look at the Japanese hardware sales chart below:

  • Switch – 54,647 (50,143)
  • PlayStation 4 – 20,911 (16,982)
  • New 2DS LL – 7,872 (7,628)
  • PlayStation 4 Pro – 4,932 (5,044)
  • New 3DS LL – 3,316 (2,784)
  • PlayStation Vita – 3,083 (3,507)
  • 2DS – 708 (498)
  • Xbox One – 51 1(31)
  • Xbox One X – 45 (43)

On the software side of things, here’s what gamers in Japan have been buying as of late. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition is at the very top of the chart, but it might be worth mentioning that the Yakuza 3 remaster on PlayStation 4, plunged from 1st down all the way down to the 14th spot. And yes, as you can see, the chart is still dominated by Switch games.
