Madden NFL Tournament Shooting Survivor Sues EA and Event Venue Among Others

A survivor of the tragic Madden NFL tournament shooting has sued Electronic Arts, Jacksonville Landing LLC, and Chicago Pizza & Sports Grille among others for alleged negligence and failure to provide adequate security. Plaintiff Jacob Mitich, who was shot twice, argues that the defendants were responsible for providing a safe and secure environment but failed to do so.

“He trusted the event host and organizers, and believed that he was walking into a safe space,” the complaint reads. “That trust was shattered when shots rang out in an overcrowded, since-shut-down, non-permitted space.”

Mitich reveals that shooter David Katz was “pacing throughout the venue” following his loss earlier that day. He wasn’t far from Katz when the shooting occurred and when he attempted to run, he was shot in the back and leg.

Mitich is now demanding a jury trial and unspecified damages, and wants the defendants to be held accountable for their part.

EA, on the other hand, has already announced that it’ll be offering financial assistance to the victims and their families, and promised to conduct a “comprehensive review” of its security policies. The publisher has also set up a trust fund that allows the general public to contribute.
