Sony finally allowing Fortnite cross-play has taken the gaming community by storm. Gamers, industry members, and even competing companies have publicly celebrated this news. Among them was Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications at Bethesda, which led to an onslaught of fan questions regarding Fallout 76.
We already knew that Fallout 76 wouldn’t support cross-play but Sony’s recent change of heart has added a slight crack to every closed door. Think what you will, but don’t get your hopes up. Pete Hines has since tweeted out that he “[has] no idea” if Fallout 76 will ever support cross-play. And with the B.E.T.A and launch on the horizon it is not even on Bethesda’s list of things to possibly do in the upcoming game.
Here is the official tweet from Hines, offering his updated take on Fallout 76 cross-play
Folks, chill. I work with a lot of devs and games for whom this is important going forward.
Fallout 76 does not support crossplay, for a number of reasons. I have no idea if it ever will. But I assure you it is not on our radar right now as we focus on B.E.T.A. and Launch.

Technologically speaking, cross-play has plenty of complications. But considering recent developments and the desire from developers and fans, it seems like cross-play will eventually become the new industry standard. Just not today. Bethesda does plenty of good, but even this huge studio has its shortcomings.
We’re still waiting on Fallout 76 B.E.T.A details, but we’re sure to get more information soon. Its beta launches in October 2018. For those who haven’t preordered the game and are excluded from the beta, you can play Fallout 76 when it arrives on the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 14, 2018.
