Red Dead Redemption 2 Soundtrack Features 192 Interactive Mission Scores

We recently discussed how Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature 700 voice actors, each with their own hefty portion of dialogue throughout the game with around 80-page scripts each, but it seems Rockstar may be unwilling to spare any expense to detail when it comes to both dialogue and music. Ivan Pavlovich, Rockstar’s Music Supervisor, stated that there are a total of 192 interactive mission scores throughout the game thanks to Woody Jackson, the game’s composer.

Pavlovich went on to detail the “feeling” of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s many sounds.

The soundtrack helps, too. You hear sounds of nature, long ambient notes in the wilderness, or the Irish-influenced strain of an antique banjo from a nearby campfire. “We have 192 interactive mission scores, and we thought about the music constantly from the time we brought in [composer] Woody Jackson in 2015,” says Ivan Pavlovich, Rockstar’s music supervisor. “Sam was always asking early on, ‘What’s the feel [of the game]?’ ” The feels are many: Pavlovich says players can hear entire concerts at town vaudeville shows, as well as more atmospheric music when they explore the open world and encounter some 200 animal species, each of which makes its own sound.

Often times, when music cues play in other video games, that sound is a dead giveaway to an offscreen enemy heading its way toward you. It doesn’t sound like players of Red Dead Redemption 2 will have any such issues throughout the game’s estimated 60 hour story, at least not immediately for invested players.

Who else is excited to hear what Woody Jackson is bringing to Red Dead Redemption 2? Let us know in the comments.
