A Playthrough of Supermassive’s Man of Medan Lasts Roughly 4 Hours

Supermassive Games took gamescom 2018 by with the announcement of The Dark Pictures Anthology, a series of standalone games all featured under the same umbrella title. The first story from the horror anthology, Man of Medan, launches sometime in 2019. Similar to Until Dawn, a branching narrative, exploration, and choices rest at the center of the experience. Apparently, playing through it from start to finish requires four hours of playtime, give or take.

During EGX 2018, Wccftech sat down with Man of Medan’s Game Director, Tom Heaton, and asked how long the experience lasts. Heaton responded as follows: “A single playthrough will be in the range of around four hours. But again, it may be a little higher or a little lower depending on your choices.”

This sounds similar to Supermassive’s Hidden Agenda, the Playlink title that takes about two hours to complete on average. However, players may spend upwards of three hours in a single playthrough, depending on the various choices they make. Of course, the same is true of Until Dawn and nearly any game of its kind.

Man of Medan follows a group of friends who go diving for sunken treasure. As tales of horror go, they wind up discovering far more than they initially bargained for. In the Wccftech interview, Heaton described it as a “ghost ship story.” It’s a compelling direction for Supermassive to take, particularly since the team has previously spoken about exploring horror’s various sub-genres.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan hits the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in 2019.
