Upcoming PS4 Racing Games 2019
Trials Rising
Developer: RedLynx
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release: February 26th
Trials is finally back! After almost five years since 2014’s smash-filled Trials Fusion , RedLynx is finally gracing us with a new entry in this long-running trials biking game. This time, there’s an even more powerful track builder, where people have been known to make whole games inside. There’s a huge focus on sharing not only tracks, but also outfits and accessories, all user-created. Of course, the real star of the show, the courses, promise to be bigger, bolder, louder, and funnier than ever before. You don’t have to simply take our word for it in our preview –you can also partake in an open beta before it launches.
Dangerous Driving
Developer/Publisher: Three Fields Entertainment
Release: April 9th
A recent Burnout Paradise remaster may have pleased some fans of the franchise , but others were most likely salivating for some new Burnout . This may be the next best thing. Dangerous Driving is being built by Three Fields Entertainment, a new company being led by two Criterion founders. One glance at the arcade racer’s trailer and the pedigree of the developer becomes obvious. It certainly looks like a Burnout game, if perhaps a bit more low-budget owing to the smaller team size. But can it deliver the goods? We are certainly anxious to find out, as Burnout aficionados no doubt are as well.
Team Sonic Racing
Developer: Sumo Digital
Publisher: Sega
Release: May 21st
The other kart racer coming out this summer, which doesn’t star a certain plumber, Sonic and pals are rearing for a comeback tour in Team Sonic Racing . Note that this entry ditches the & Sega All-Stars moniker, as the focus is all on the blue blur and supporting cast. It’s also not a simple, straight-up kart racer with power-ups, either. Teams of three help one another, turning any given race into a battle of wits and strategy as much as it is a race to the finish line. The kart racing formula is a difficult thing to tweak, but with any luck, Sumo Digital knows what they’re doing and will ship a solid game. Judging by what we’ve seen so far , things are looking promising.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
Developer: Beenox
Publisher: Activision
Release: June 21st
Activision may be making headlines for all the wrong reasons these days, but that hasn’t slowed the behemoth mega-publisher from releasing hit remaster after hit remaster . Third time’s the charm, and so it follows that the classic Crash Team Racing is looking to cash in on the seemingly never-ending wave of nostalgia sweeping gamers these days. If the remaster is done right, then this is a recipe for success.
WRC 8
Developer: Kylotonn
Publisher: Bigben Interactive
Release: September
The WRC series of rally racing games took a beating the last time we saw a release in 2017. While the game was enjoyable, DiRT 4 easily outshone it and made rally racing accessible again. Kylotonn has hunkered down to improve all aspects of their next rally game, WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship . Since this space is highly competitive these days, they’ll need to do much more than just apply a shiny coat of 4K, HDR paint to the vehicles. Things like smoother pace notes, a more fleshed out career mode, more technical tracks, and dynamic weather have been promised. Competition breeds innovation, so here’s hoping Kylotonn can give the likes of DiRT Rally 2.0 a run for their money.
