Preorder bonuses are commonplace in the video games industry, with many games offering some sort of digital DLC for committing to purchasing the product ahead of time. This will not be the case with Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt Red said on Twitter that there will be no in-game preorder bonuses and explained why.
A fan of the game posted a screenshot of their messages with CD Projekt Red’s official Facebook page on Reddit. When the fan asked about whether or not players would receive digital, in-game pre order bonuses such as “armors, money, and guns,” CD Projekt Red responded, “No, we don’t do that. Every person that buys the game gets exactly the same in-game content, no matter if they buy it in pre-orders, on release date, or 2 years later.”
It’s worth noting that, while players will not receive any sort of in-game bonuses like weapons or skill points for preordering Cyberpunk 2077, various stores will still offer preorder bonuses. For example, GameStop PowerUp Reward members get a Samurai Medallion, an actual necklace, for preordering physical copies of the game. If you are a My Best Buy member who preorders the game, you get a $10 reward credit and a Steelbook case for it.
GameStop:
Those who are members of GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program who pre order the physical versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will receive the Exclusive Samurai Medallion. The website states that the Medallion is “not valid on Digital.” While stores like Amazon and Walmart don’t have preorder items, each one does have a preorder bonus discount. So if you buy it here from Amazon, $10 will be taken off when you get to the cart. (The same happens at Walmart.)
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. What do you think of CD Projekt Red’s stance on DLC preorder bonuses? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
