project sakura wars release date

The Action-Focused Project Sakura Wars Lands in Japan this December

Sega’s Project Sakura Wars stream offered fans a deep-dive on the upcoming title. Significant details were revealed, including a first look at the battle system that completely differs from past mainline installments. In addition, we finally know when the highly-anticipated title will appear in Japanese stores. Get ready to return to the world of Sakura Wars on December 12, 2019.

Originally announced in early 2019Project Sakura Wars is the first mainline entry in the series since 2005, acting as a reboot of sorts. Unlike prior entries in the series, Project Sakura Wars features an action-focused battle system. This is a departure from the tactical gameplay the series was known for. Sega describes this battle system as “Dramatic 3D Action.” While this change will no doubt be disappointing for many, perhaps Sega thought it was necessary for the series’ reintroduction.

It had already been confirmed that Project Sakura Wars would indeed be heading westward. This would make it only the second entry in the series to do so, since 2005’s So Long, My Love (ironically the last entry before the series took a hiatus). While we have confirmation it will be releasing outside of Japan, all we know is that it will be out sometime in 2020.

A new Sakura Wars game has been a long time coming. Now that a release date is known, hopefully even more information will be on its way. Project Sakura Wars will release exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in Japan on December 12, 2019. A Western release is set for sometime in 2020. Are you excited for this series to make a comeback? How do you feel about the shift to an action-focused combat system? Let us know!
