Capcom Sales

Capcom’s Sales Soar as Devil May Cry 5 Nears 3 Million Units Sold, Resident Evil 2 Surpasses 4 Million

Capcom has had a resurgence as of late, with hits like Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5, and Monster Hunter: World raking in lots of cash for the Japanese company. Statistics from Working Casual shed even more light on just how successful Capcom has been.

We already know that Monster Hunter: World is Capcom’s best-selling game of all time, reaching a staggering 13 million units sold. But the company’s success doesn’t stop there, as 2019’s Devil May Cry 5 is closing in on 3 million units sold as of July 2019. By the end of 2019, Devil May Cry 5 should be well over the 3 million mark. The game was off to a great start after its launch in March of 2019, surpassing 2 million units sold in less than a month of its release.

Resident Evil 2 remake also has seen tremendous success, nearly outselling the 1998 original and surpassing 4 million units sold since its release in January of 2019. With numbers like that, it’s very likely we’ll see a Resident Evil 3 remake sometime in the future. The NPD group also lists Resident Evil 2 as the 5th best-selling game of 2019, as of July.

With the Monster Hunter: World expansion, Iceborne on the horizon, it wouldn’t be surprising if the base game reached the 14 million mark before the end of 2019. You can read our Iceborne E3 2019 preview.

With that in mind, Capcom doesn’t have any other releases for the rest of 2019 aside from the Iceborne expansion, so we’re curious to see what the company has in store for us in 2020. In fact, other than the long-dormant Deep Down, which was announced in 2013, there isn’t much else we know about in terms of what the company is currently developing. Hopefully, it unveils some surprises soon.

What would you like to see from Capcom in the future? Are you surprised by the recent success of its games? Let us know!
