Reports of New Assassin’s Creed Game Set in China Dismissed

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Ubisoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Yves Guillemot, confirmed that a new Assassin’s Creed game set in China is in development. The source of the report was an interview Guillemot gave at ChinaJoy 2019, which was then widely reported by Chinese publications and mistranslated by folks online.

A video of the interview, originally in English, is now available and it contradicts reports. As pointed out by Twitter user Daniel Ahmed, Guillemot merely said that he would love to see a mainline Assassin’s Creed game set in China.

“As you remember, we have some 2D Assassin’s Creed game in Chronicles that was based in China,” said Guillemot. “I can’t give you a clear answer but it is something we would love to do at some point.”

While this may come as a disappointment to those who got their hopes up, never say never!

For now, what we do know is that the rumored Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok will feature Vikings, boats, and pirates. Code-named Kingdom, the game will reportedly release in 2020 as a cross-gen title.

Assassin’s Creed is certainly here to stay. When/If it makes its way to China is anybody’s guess right now.
