inFAMOUS PlayStation Showcase Rumor

Rumor: New inFAMOUS Game to be Revealed at PlayStation Showcase on September 9

Rumors are circulating that a new inFAMOUS game is due to be shown at the PlayStation Showcase later this week. According to @Shpeshal_Nick on Twitter, a leaker who has previously been correct with other inside information about Sony’s plans, there’s a chance the franchise will “make a return” at the event on September 9.

Nick did also state that he’d been unable to confirm the rumor with any of his sources, so to take it with “a grain of salt.” However, the leaker has previously correctly predicted the existence of the Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island expansion. Others that are yet to be proven include the delayed announcement of Sony’s acquisition of Bluepoint Games and the development of a Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver remaster.

The rumor has been backed up by the discovery that the infamousthegame.com domain has been recently updated. First registered in August 2007, two years before the release of the first game on PS3, the domain was last updated on June 29 this year. The site is currently a perfect mirror of Sucker Punch Productions’ developer website (it doesn’t just redirect to the aforementioned site), which is strange for a franchise website and suggests the developer may be trying to hide something for now.

The last we heard from the inFAMOUS franchise was the release of inFAMOUS: Second Son on PS4 in 2014. New protagonist Delsin Rowe finds himself an outcast and labelled a Bioterrorist after he absorbs the smoke powers of a Conduit injured in a military truck crash. The game then received a standalone expansion in the form of inFAMOUS: First Light the same year, a smaller game that shone a light on one of the other Conduits introduced during Second Son, Abigail “Fetch” Walker.

Now that seven years have passed since we last saw the franchise, we even described it as one of the PlayStation exclusive franchises deserving of a PS5 remake. Whether it gets a remake, a completely new game, or the rumor turns out to be false is just something we’ll have to wait to find out. The PlayStation Showcase will air at 1PM PDT on September 9.
