Gearbox Software’s Chief Executive Officer, Randy Pitchford, has confirmed that the studio is still working on a new Brothers in Arms game. It’s unclear if it’s the same project that we heard of in 2015, which was in incubation phase at the time.
Pitchford dropped the news during a conversation with Insomniac Games’ CEO, Ted Price, for the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Game Maker’s Notebook podcast back in April. However, that podcast was only made public on YouTube by AIAS a few days ago, where it got picked up by Atl/Char.
Pitchford made it clear that fans won’t hear anything about the next Brothers in Arms until development hits some kind of a milestone.
“I didn’t even announce Borderlands 3 until it was in beta,” Pitchford said. “It sucks because I know there’s a lot of people – we’re working on another Brothers in Arms game, but I’m not saying shit until we have it. We have fans that really love that [series], but they’re just going to have to suffer.”
Brothers in Arms hasn’t seen a mainline installment since 2008’s Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. At E3 2011 Gearbox and Ubisoft unveiled Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, which was later cancelled. Many of Furious 4‘s elements were transferred to the now-shuttered Battleborn.
In 2015, Pitchford told IGN that Gearbox is working on a new, “authentic” Brothers in Arms game, but we haven’t heard anything since then. As previously mentioned, it’s unclear if the aforementioned project is the same one that was in incubation at the time or an entirely new project.
