SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake Packs Your Favorite SpongeBob Moments into One Game, Original Voice Cast Returns

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is a brand new SpongeBob video game that somehow packs all of your favorite SpongeBob memes and references into a single game. Serenaded by SpongeBob’s epic rendition of “Sweet Victory,” check out the announcement trailer:

The trailer is packed with references from across the series as SpongeBob and Patrick are thrown through numerous portals to various Wishworlds, beginning with “Sweet Victory,” the song the crew played at the Bubble Bowl in the Season 2 episode “Band Geeks.” From there we are treated to the primitive SpongeGar, SpongeBob as a snail, Flying Dutchman with a sock, SpongeBob as a cowboy riding a seahorse (with some flowing locks), and a number of other costumes, references, and characters from SpongeBob history. And all the while, Patrick is a balloon. Just go with it. The ending “key art” scene is particularly hilarious and unexpected, and the trailer is well worth a watch if you skipped it to continue reading.

While no gameplay was shown, The Cosmic Shake seems to be a follow up in many ways to the action-platformer SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Wish-granting mermaid tears send SpongeBob and Patrick through portals to assorted wishworlds, allowing all of these realities to be possible within a single game. The Cosmic Shake will feature more than 30 costumes for SpongeBob to wear, so the smattering seen in the trailer seems to only be a fraction of the full game.

The Cosmic Shake will include seven “distinct Wishworlds,” including Wild West Jellyfish Fields and Halloween Rock Bottom. Balloon Patrick is a permanent companion throughout the game, so you’ll get constant banter between the two friends, a staple of the show. More importantly, every single character is voiced by their original actors. No licensed game soundalikes here! The in-game soundtrack also includes a staggering 101 songs from across the series, so if you have a favorite SpongeBob tune, you’ll probably hear it in The Cosmic Shake.

Developed by Purple Lamp and published by THQ Nordic, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It doesn’t currently have a release date.
