Report: Konami Gearing up to Announce New Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid Revival, and Multiple Silent Hill Games

The reliable folks over at Video Games Chronicle claim to have heard from their publishing sources that Konami is in fact gearing up to announce a revival of its beloved IPs: Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill.

Following years of rumors and reports, VGC’s sources have said that Konami is gearing up to “publicly showcase its plans at major shows next year,” provided that the ongoing pandemic doesn’t throw a spanner in the works. The publisher reportedly pulled out of E3 2021 because of “timing issues” but already had a number of key projects in the works.

So let’s talk about these projects.

According to VGC, the first project is a new Castlevania game that will be “a reimagining” of the series. Development is already underway internally, with support from external Japanese studios.

Previous reports suggested that Bluepoint Games, which is now under Sony Interactive Entertainment, might be working on a Metal Gear Solid remake. VGC’s sources claim that while a remake is in the works, it’s being developed by an external Chinese studio. What’s more is that this remake is based on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as opposed to the original release.

“Konami also intends to release remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid games for modern consoles, ahead of the larger project, we understand,” VGC wrote this morning.

Last but certainly not least, VGC has once again lent credence to reports that a Silent Hill game is in the works. However, the website’s sources claim that there are multiple Silent Hill games in development at “various external development studios,” one of which is a major Japanese developer that has not been disclosed, as previously reported.

Considering VGC’s track record, we have some faith in this report. Following its publication, GameSpot Editor and Kinda Funny’s Tamoor Hussain tweeted that he’s heard of the Metal Gear projects before, and is “confident it’s a genuine effort and something will show up eventually.”
