Sony has opened up registrations for customers based in the United States that give them an opportunity to purchase a PlayStation 5 from PlayStation Direct in time for the holiday season. The fine print: no one is guaranteed anything and Sony will “select” who receives the invitation to purchase based on “previous interests and PlayStation activities.”
If you reside outside the United States, as long as you pick an address based in the country, you’ll be able to make a purchase. If you input a foreign address, your invitation will be cancelled.
“This coming holiday season, we will have a limited amount of PS5 consoles available for customers in the US to purchase direct from PlayStation,” wrote Sony. Once you register your interest and are one of the lucky ones to be selected, you will receive an email with further instructions and details starting in November. Make sure that your email address is the one that’s associated with your PSN ID and you’ve opted in to receive emails from PlayStation.
If you don’t hear back, you weren’t selected, unfortunately.
Those who receive an invite will only be able to purchase one console (disc or digital), two Cosmic Red or Midnight Black DualSense controllers, three white DualSense controllers, one media remote, and one Pulse 3D headset. You don’t have to purchase all of the above – these are the quantities that Sony has limited each item to per customer.
While purchasing a PS5 will require an invite, the general public will be able to buy accessories.
