Abandoned developer BLUE BOX Game Studios has released a statement on Twitter to condemn the death threats that it says it has been receiving over the past few months, and to warn perpetrators that it is getting the authorities involved.
Tweeting for the first time in nearly two months, BLUE BOX said that threats took a turn for the worst over the past few days as they became “physical” in nature. As a result, those in the studio’s vicinity – including other businesses and the general public – are becoming uncomfortable. BLUE BOX also said that it intends to hire more staff, which will be difficult if the death threats continue.
The statement reads:
The following message is not addressed as a company, but as a group of human beings. The last few days have been difficult. Death threats are increasing online but unfortunately also physically and this has to stop. We have been dealing with death threats the past few months and the last few days we have been dealing with it again, especially physically. This not only affects us as a team, but everyone within our environments. Other businesses, families, and everyone surrounding us. We want to work in a safe environment and with job openings upcoming in the future, we want to offer a safe work environment for future colleagues as well. We won’t tolerate this and will take action by providing authorities IP addresses, logs, and camera footages.
BLUE BOX added that it acknowledges the “negative situation” it created and understands players’ frustration. However, it goes without saying that death threats aren’t acceptable under any circumstances whatsoever.
