Alleged Leaker Claims NetherRealm Is Making Smash Bros-Like Crossover Fighter Based on Warner Bros Properties (Update)

Update

According to journalist and insider Jeff Grubb, the Warner Bros. platform crossover fighter is real, but it’s not being developed by NetherRealm.

Original story

A self-proclaimed leaker has turned up on Reddit to claim that Mortal Kombat and Injustice developer, NetherRealm Studios, is making a Smash Bros-inspired crossover fighter featuring Warner Bros. characters.

hugeleakeractually’s bold claims were made using a new account because they apparently don’t want to risk anything. To back up their claims, they pointed towards a recent trademark application filed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for something called “Multiversus.” While the trademark application doesn’t reveal anything, the category it’s been filed under pertains to video game software, so we can at least deduce that Multiversus is probably an upcoming video game.

New IP technically. It is based off Smash Bros (and now Nickelodeon All Stars, but this was in the works before Nickelodeon was even announced).

It’s a Tag Team game. Not sure if that means you pick two characters and switch between them. Or if each ‘character’ is actually a pair, or if each character is an individual and you only switch when you lose a stock. All I know is there’s synergy between certain characters which implies custom teams.

The leaker claims that the following characters are confirmed to appear in the rumored game:

  • Shaggy

  • Gandalf

  • Tom & Jerry

  • Batman

  • Fred Flinstone

  • Mad Max

  • Harry Potter & Ron are “apparently in but the rights are weird” so their development may have come to a halt

  • Johnny Bravo

Take this leak with a huge grain of salt considering its origin, but the Multiversus trademark is worth keeping an eye on.
