Call of Duty: Vanguard File Size and Preload Dates Revealed, Under 90 GB

After teasing yesterday that this year’s Call of Duty’s install size would be “significantly smaller” than previous years, the exact Call of Duty: Vanguard file size has now been confirmed, along with the dates that players can start preloading ahead of its November 5th release.

Sledgehammer excitedly told players that Vanguard would be 30%-50%+ smaller than previous Call of Duty games at launch, most notably the enormous sizes of Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War, which have been storage hogs. Slightly different across all platforms, Vanguard won’t demand much more than 90GB on most consoles (PS4 excluded), with the actual install size coming in well below that.

Call of Duty: Vanguard File Size – All Consoles

These are the Call of Duty: Vanguard install sizes for all consoles, as well as the space required to run the game:

  • PlayStation 5: 64.13 GB Download | 89.84 GB Required Space
  • PlayStation 4: 54.65 GB Download | 93.12 GB Required Space
  • Xbox Series X |S: 61 GB Download | 61 GB Required Space
  • Xbox One: 56.6 GB Download | 56.6 GB Required Space

The unique architecture of PlayStation consoles means that some space is reserved for overhead on both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, so while the install sizes are 54 GB and 64 GB respectively, you’ll need around 90 GB free in order to download, install and run Call of Duty: Vanguard on those platforms. These are the full launch install sizes, which will include the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies. Sledgehammer confirmed that players will be able to manage the install and select which elements of Vanguard they want to install, which would free up even more space.

These install sizes don’t account for the potential addition of Warzone with its Pacific update coming later in the year. It’s unknown if Warzone will continue to run in the Modern Warfare application, get its own separate application, or be added to Vanguard. We also don’t yet know if Warzone will officially get a PS5 version, or continue to run the PS4 version via backwards compatibility. Warzone’s Pacific update is rumored to launch with the start of Vanguard’s Season One, which itself is rumored for early December. Raven is expected to talk more about the coming update sometime following Vanguard’s launch.

In addition to revealing the Vanguard file sizes, Sledgehammer also announced preload dates for the game.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Preload

For all players who have digitally preordered Call of Duty: Vanguard, they can preload soon to be ready to play right on launch day.

  • PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5: Preloading begins on October 28 at 9 PM PT in North and South America. All other countries will begin preloading on October 29 at midnight local time.
  • Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S: Preloading begins on October 28 at 9 PM PT.

Preload should start automatically, but if it doesn’t, you can visit the store page to manually start the preload after the preload period goes live.

PC file size info, technical specs, and preload information will be available at a later date. PC Preloads are set to begin November 2.

Call of Duty: Vanguard launches on November 5th.
