Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition has had quite a rocky launch. It’s not typical for a GTA game to get universally panned, and this one had all the potential to woo everyone over considering it includes three of the most beloved GTA games in one package. Unfortunately, the state in which the trilogy released is questionable at best.
Bugs, glitches, models, textures, performance – everything about the trilogy came under fire immediately after launch. Memes flooded social media and spurred numerous headlines. To make matters worse, GTA Trilogy remained unavailable on PC for numerous days because it released with files that weren’t meant to be in there. And then came the Metacritic review bombing.
Shortly after launch, Grove Street Games’ boss Thomas Williamson penned the following sarcasm-filled tweet (via Screen Rant):
It’s so fun to see players out there really enjoying what we’ve put together for them. I’m honestly enjoying this unparalleled level of scrutiny on our studio. Today we are celebrating our monumental project launch, while we work on updates. 🙂

As you can imagine, Williamson’s Twitter replies don’t look good. Meanwhile, Rockstar’s support page is being inundated with refund requests from players across all platforms.
According to reports, Grove Street Games accidentally left files pertaining to the infamous “Hot Coffee” mini game, which ended up in legal action against Rockstar Games, inside the PC version. Parent company Take-Two Interactive had to part with millions of dollars in order to settle that case in 2005.
Neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two Interactive have responded to the ongoing backlash.
