NPD Group has released US video game industry sales numbers, including the top selling video games of November 2021. At the top of the charts was Activision’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, followed by Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 2042, among other new releases. However, the numbers also indicate a sharp decline in next-gen console sales across the board with hardware dollar sales falling a whopping 38% compared to November 2020.

Journalist Mat Piscatella outlined a few key numbers via Twitter. Across all platforms, Call of Duty: Vanguard took first place as the best-selling game in November 2021. It also took home the title of the second best-selling game of 2021, just behind Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Meanwhile, Battlefield 2042 took second place in the month of November 2021 on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, despite some pretty serious gameplay issues on launch.
Though console sales declined 38% compared to November last year, it’s important to note that total sales in the year 2021 have increased 20%. Piscatella notes that the most likely culprit of this seasonal drop is the ongoing shortage in consoles due in part to the global pandemic and chip shortages. The Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, continues to dominate the console market in terms of sales numbers. Switch exclusive Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl also earned third place in November 2021 game sales.
