Revered creator Hideo Kojima has said that he’s currently experimenting with a “radical” project, and hopes to delve into video and radio work in 2022.
To mark the end of 2021, Kojima thanked fans for their support while lauding Kojima Productions for managing to release Death Stranding: Director’s Cut for the PlayStation 5 in the midst of the pandemic. Now, he’s ready to start “something new in earnest.”
“Although 2021 was still a very difficult year for us, we managed to deliver the release of DSDC for PS5 safely even in this COVID situation while we were solemnly preparing and experimenting with new titles,” Kojima tweeted. “Thank you very much. This year, I’m going to start a new work in earnest, and move to the next level of experimentation with a radical project. I’m also hoping to get the video team going, and I may start doing something like a radio project?”
Sounds like Kojima-san has his hands full!
In his end-of-year interview with Famitsu magazine, Kojima teased at least two titles, one of which he described as a “big” title and the other as a “new challenge.” It’s unclear which one of these is the “radical” one but we’ll find out in due course. Worth noting that it didn’t take Kojima Productions too long to release Death Stranding (it was out four years after he announced his partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment to make a PS4 game).
“As the boundaries of entertainment disappear in the near future, I’d like to make this a year that we take a step forward into challenging different mediums and expressions,” Kojima told Famitsu.
Now we wait.
