It’s the second weekend of 2022 and the first full weekend since everyone went back to work, so it’s time to forget about our collective endless march into the void with some video games. So, what on earth are you playing this weekend?
Personally, I’ve decided that in 2022 I’m going to become a golfer. I haven’t bought any clubs and I don’t know how to hit a ball, but I have been playing PGA Tour 2K21. That’s good enough, in my book, as it fulfills two of my passions: becoming overly invested in a new hobby, and not going outside. I’ll be playing more of PGA Tour 2K21 this weekend, as I’ve learned that while I have no idea how to play golf in real-life, in the virtual world I can score a 60. I’ve heard that’s good, but I don’t really know why.

PS Plus had its new free games for January release this week, so we’d recommend any of them.
- Deep Rock Galactic: Go mining with friends but also encounter weird aliens that you inevitably murder. Has anyone ever encountered an alien in a video game without immediately resorting to murder?
- Persona 5 Strikers: Everyone likes Persona 5, aside from the people who don’t, and as such everyone should like Persona 5 Strikers. This is an action-RPG spin-off of the JRPG that’s got a helpful heap of Dynasty Warriors sprinkled over the top of it — but don’t let that put you off.
- Dirt 5: The Dirt series is cool because it lets you reenact the thrill of having an overly chatty backseat passenger, but in a video game. Go driving around various dirt tracks while an AI assistant screams at you to turn left.
