Techland’s lead game designer Tymon Smektala has confirmed that Dying Light 2 cross-play won’t be a launch feature. This applies to both cross-platform and cross-gen play. He revealed this during the game’s final Q&A session ahead of launch on Twitch.
For the uninitiated, Dying Light 2‘s campaign can be completed in co-op mode with up to four players. All four players must be on the same platform. You can also go online and find other players outside of your friends list to play with.
When is Dying Light 2 cross-play and cross-gen support coming?
When Smektala was asked to confirm if Dying Light 2 will have cross-platform play, he said, “No, not at this moment. It won’t be available.” However, when he was asked about cross-gen play, he answered a little differently. “This won’t be possible at the launch of the game, but we are working to make it possible after the launch,” he said.
From his responses, it sounds like Dying Light 2 cross-platform play might not happen at all, and if it does, it’s a ways off. On the other hand, cross-gen support is actively being worked on so you’ll at least be able to play with your friends on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 both.
