Rockstar has finally confirmed that they are working on a new Grand Theft Auto game. The title everyone is calling GTA 6 is “in active development” but otherwise there is no news yet. They did, however, finally confirm a release date for the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto V and the standalone GTA Online.
A brand new GTA game
Rockstar’s confirmation revealed absolutely nothing aside from that a new game is in development. We don’t even know if the game will be called Grand Theft Auto VI for certain. This is what they had to say:

With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. The one thing they did definitely confirm is that both the standalone version of GTA Online and the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto V will be released on March 15. Both games will make full use of the PS5 for both graphics and other features, including up to 4K resolution, 60fps, HDR, ray tracing, upgrades to textures and draw distances, improved loading times, 3D audio, and haptic feedback. Those wanting to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 will be able to transfer their GTA Online characters and GTA V story progression at launch through a one-time migration process. As GTA Online will be free for PS5 players for the first 3 months, it’s certainly something to bear in mind.
GTA Online will be getting improvements for all new players. Those wanting to jump straight into the mode no longer have to complete the GTA V story prologue. Instead, there’s a brand new GTA Online tutorial with a Career Builder. Here players get instant access to one of four businesses: Biker, Executive, Nightclub Owner, or Gunrunner. They’ll then get a cash injection to buy a property, high-end vehicle and appropriate weapons to give them a great start.
All current players can choose to restart and make use of the Career Builder at any time. They’ll also be able to access the new Hao’s Special Works auto shop on PS5. This shop will let players upgrade five new vehicles and five existing vehicles for “elite driving performance” that makes full use of the console’s capabilities. Finally, the Short Trips introduced with the brand new The Contract content will now be accessible from the Jobs list without needing to complete the story missions in The Contract.
In other news, Ghostwire Tokyo will be exclusive to PS5 and PC until at least 2023. Of course, seeing as the game has been published by Bethesda, it’s somewhat inevitable it will arrive on Xbox consoles eventually. Elsewhere, Infinity Ward has teased the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise.
