The time has come. You can now pre-load Horizon Forbidden West on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 if you’ve pre-ordered the game. Size varies by region, as previously explained, and there seems to be a day one patch that brings it to version 01.003.000. In the United States, Horizon Forbidden West’s PS5 version weighs 87.608 GB, in Europe it’s 98.074 GB, and the Japanese version is 83.797 GB. PS4 users are reporting that the game’s download size in Europe is around 90 GB for version 1.03.
How to pre-load Horizon Forbidden West
This might get a little confusing so bear with us. First things first, Horizon Forbidden West’s PS4 version comes with the ability to upgrade to the PS5 version at no additional cost. However, if you buy the PS4 version, you will only be able to pre-load that version and not the PS5 upgrade. If you want to save $10 then you’ll need to wait until launch day, claim the PS5 upgrade, then begin downloading. If you directly buy the $70 PS5 version, you can now begin downloading the game.
Worth noting that if you want to buy the cheaper PS4 version with the intention of upgrading to the PS5 version later, you’ll need to purchase Horizon Forbidden West either from your PS4 or from the web-based PS Store. If you use your PS5 console’s store page, you will only be able to buy the $70 PS5 version. For folks who are buying the game on disc, all you need to do is pop your PS4 disc into your PS5 and claim the free upgrade at launch.
Horizon Forbidden West is the last Sony first-party game that comes with a free next-gen upgrade. Going forward, you’ll need to fork out an extra $10 for PS5 copies.
