Sony Will Plant a Tree Every Time Horizon Forbidden West Players Unlock a Specific Trophy

Sony has announced a new corporate social responsibility initiative in the United States, which tasks players with unlocking a specific trophy in Horizon Forbidden West. The “Play and Plant” program will involve Sony donating trees every time players unlock “Reached the Daunt” trophy in the upcoming title before March 25th. The program is being run in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and will help complete three different reforestation projects.

How does Play and Plant work?

Sony will donate one tree for each Reached the Daunt trophy unlocked. The Daunt is the first large area you’ll reach after completing Horizon Forbidden West’s tutorial so it’s pretty much an automatic unlock that requires you to play for an hour or two, depending on how quick you are. Sony estimates that 288,000 trees are required to complete the following reforestation projects:

  • Douglas County Forest (Douglas County, Wisconsin): Located in northern Wisconsin, the Douglas County Forest spans more than 278,000 acres.
  • Sheep Fire Private Lands (Lassen County, California): The 2020 Sheep Fire that swept through Lassen County in northern California charred nearly 30,000 acres of land and forest.
  • Torreya State Park (Liberty County, Florida): Torreya State Park spans more than 13,000 acres of the Florida Panhandle and is home to a large quantity of longleaf pine trees.

Outside of the United States, Sony’s running similar initiatives in the UK and France. In the former, Sony will light up the Eden Project Biomes in Cornwall, and in the latter, the company will help plant trees.

In other news, Sony’s giving fans a chance to win a free PS5, and it looks like Street Fighter 6 will be announced soon.
