Elden Ring has officially lived up to the hype by becoming one of the highest-rated video games in recent years. Over on Metacritic, the game has garnered an aggregate score of 97 on the PlayStation 5 based on 45 critic reviews, placing it at no. 15 in the list of highest-rated games of all times. Elden Ring has joined the ranks of hits like The Legend of Zelda: Breadth of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2, and the 2000 Dreamcast version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, among many others. But that’s not all. On OpenCritic, Elden Ring shares a spot with Super Mario Odyssey as the highest-rated game on the website.

FromSoftware’s Yasuhiro Kitao took to Twitter to thank fans on behalf of the studio for their support throughout Elden Ring’s development. “Thanks so much to all who have kept Elden Ring in the discussion and helped to boost excitement in your own unique ways,” he wrote. “The development team couldn’t have pulled through without the motivation you provided. Thank you.”
PlayStation LifeStyle’s Paulmichael Contreras praised the game for its approach to open-world design and its addicting adventure. Writing for our sister site GameRevolution, Jason Faulkner said that Elden Ring lives up to expectations and offers a world that’s exciting to traverse and explore. Reviewers unanimously agree that Elden Ring has set the bar high for open-world games.
