Free-to-Play Hero Shooter Gundam Evolution Launching Worldwide in 2022

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that its team-based, first-person shooter Gundam Evolution will release worldwide on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 among other platforms in 2022. Announced last July, Gundam Evolution will be the franchise’s first ever free-to-play hero shooter that will feature competitive six-versus-six, player-versus-player combat with playable mobile suits from Gundam.

Gundam Evolution will launch with three modes

Gundam Evolution will come with three modes: Point Capture, Domination, and Destruction, and each team will be comprised of offense, defense, and support characters. At launch, the game will have 12 characters (or units) to choose from, including RX-78-2 Gundam and the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos. Additional mobile suits and customizable items can be earned via gameplay or microtransactions. Players who don’t want to spend real money can unlock items with in-game Capital Points earned via gameplay. The real-world alternative is EVO Coins and Bandai Namco has yet to confirm how much they’ll cost. Gundam Evolution will undergo a closed network test on PC between April 7 and 12. Console test will follow at a later date.

“Rooted in the values of hope, peace, unity and victory, the essence of the Gundam brand is captured in full by Gundam Evolution,” executive producer Kazuya Maruyama said in a press release. “We cannot wait for franchise veterans of all ages, whose Gundam fandom may have sparked at different points in the franchise’s 40-year history, and newcomers alike to unite on the Gundam Evolution battlefield and duke it out in their favorite mobile suits from across the Gundam Series and beyond!” Gameplay director Ryota Hogaki added that Gundam Evolution will welcome players of all skill levels and can be enjoyed solo or with friends.

In other news, a doctor is under fire for making a video of himself engaging in console wars while performing surgery, and a God of War TV series is reportedly in the works.
