PS5 Xbox Series X Sales

Xbox Series Console Sales Beat PS5 in Europe for the First Time Ever

With many component makers unable to supply enough to meet demand, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S console stock is still in short supply across the world. This was made fairly obvious during the first two months of 2022 in Europe as shortages meant that the Xbox Series console sales beat PS5 for the first time since launch 16 months ago.

How bad is the console shortage?

Console hardware sales are down 32% when compared to January 2021, and down 44% compared to February 2021 according to the European GSD market report for February, as explained by GamesIndustry.biz. As was expected, the Nintendo Switch remains the best selling console in the region by quite a margin, although this console’s sales are down 14% compared to February last year. Figures weren’t given for either the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S console sales but the report did say the latter outsold the former for the first month since launch. This was because the Xbox Series S was more widely available.

PlayStation does continue to have quite a presence in the console accessories category, though. The PS4 DualShock 4 controller topped the list with the PS5 DualSense controller in second. The PS5 Pulse 3D Headset also charted in fifth place. Positions three and four were taken up by the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons and Xbox Series Wireless Controller respectively. Overall, 1.3 million accessories were sold in February, although this was also an 11% drop compared to February 2021.

Many players still remain unable to get a PS5 console because of the supply issues. If you’re one of those struggling, be sure to keep an eye on our PS5 restock updates that are published every day.
