After what seems like forever, we’ll get The Callisto Protocol update soon. First announced in December 2020, the survival horror game is being developed by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield at his new Striking Distance Studios. Schofield shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Twitter showing motion capture work in progress, and promised that he’ll have more to share soon.
The last Callisto Protocol update came a year ago
The last time we heard anything about The Callisto Protocol was a year ago when Skybound Games announced a partnership with publisher Krafton and Striking Distance Studios. As a strategic partner, Skybound Games is tasked with aiding development and global marketing and distribution efforts.
This is my favorite time when making a game – the design starts coming together. Love seeing all the hard work the team is doing in the mocap studio to bring our characters to life. Thanks to everyone waiting as we finish and polish the game. We’ll have more to share soon! pic.twitter.com/0nmcR55OFf

For the uninitiated, The Callisto Protocol is set in the same narrative universe as PUBG: Battlegrounds. The events of the game take place on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320. Players have to break free from a maximum security prison and uncover its dark secrets.
“Striking Distance Studios has one goal with The Callisto Protocol – to make one of the most terrifying games of all time,” Schofield said last year. “We’ve built a world class studio of passionate developers that is ready to once again tackle one of our all-time favorite genres – survival horror.”
The Callisto Protocol is in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A release window has yet to be announced.
In other news, it’ll be a while before we’ll get more Kingdom Hearts 4 news, and it looks like the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake is very much real.
