PSVR 2 Delayed 2023

More Rumors Suggest PSVR 2 May Not Be Released Until 2023

When PSVR 2 was first revealed, Sony left out any hint of a release date. Many assumed the headset would appear in time for the holiday season this year, but rumors are starting to gather pace that this won’t be the case. Another source, this time a market researcher for VR display panels, has claimed both Sony’s PSVR 2 headset and Apple’s VR headset have both been delayed to 2023.

When will PSVR 2 be released?

Sony has not announced a release date for PSVR 2. However, rumors the PSVR 2 headset had been delayed and would not be released until early 2023 began at the start of March. This time Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young has also said the headset has been delayed until 2023. This doesn’t seem to be because of a shortage of VR display shipments but may instead be because of a shortage of other components similar to that affecting the supply of PS5 consoles.

The Display Supply Chain article details how 15.8M panels will be supplied for VR headsets in 2022 alone, 80% of which will be heading to the Meta Quest headsets. Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 headset will be using AMOLED displays with “a pixel density well above 800 PPI”. This is much higher than previous AMOLED screens and the expected demand for PSVR 2 headsets is the only reason this technology has been mass-produced.

While the market analysts are likely to have access to insider information the public has not, it is still worth taking this rumor with a pinch of salt until Sony confirms a release date themselves.

In other news, Vicarious Visions has been fully merged into Blizzard and will now be known as Blizzard Albany. The studio currently appears to be working on content for Diablo 4. Elsewhere, the free The Isle of Bigsnax DLC update for Bugsnax will be released on PS5 and PS4 at the end of this month.
