Gotham Knights Microtransactions

Gotham Knights Will Not Have Microtransactions

Developer WB Games Montréal has confirmed that there will be no Gotham Knights microtransactions as stated in a FAQ on the game’s official website. The page provides additional information on the requirements for the game’s online co-op as well as clarity on where Gotham Knights fits within the overarching Batman universe.

Gotham Knights won’t have local co-op, either

Without mincing words, the FAQ says that Gotham Knights will not have any microtransactions or in-game purchases. This means that you won’t need to spend real money on premium currency and in-game boosts.

The FAQ says that you’ll be able to customize your character’s look with new gear and weapons through basic campaign progression, so it seems like there’s plenty of skins to unlock in-game. That said, those who purchase the Gotham Knights Deluxe Edition will get the Visionary Pack DLC that includes gear and cosmetics inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series. This opens the door for future DLC that will bring more nostalgic costumes and skins.

The page reiterates that Gotham Knights features a “two-player, online cooperative (co-op) mode,” coinciding with Sony’s recent correction on the game’s PlayStation Store page that once stated that it had four-player co-op. It clarifies that you will need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription to access the online co-op, which means that the game will not have local co-op. Thankfully, you will not need an internet connection to play the game solo, so it won’t have any kind of online DRM.

While Gotham Knights has a combat system that feels similar to the gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, the FAQ emphasizes that Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin all have “unique combat and traversal abilities.” The game will have an original story that is set in DC’s Batman Universe, but is “not connected to the Batman Arkham games” and is “not connected to the Gotham Knights TV show.”

As previously announced, the page confirms that Gotham Knights will not be launching on PS4 and Xbox One. No cross-play is planned between the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC versions.

In other news, Dead Space will release after March 2023 as an unannounced remake is arriving first, and the Sony and Bungie acquisition deal will conclude by the end of the year.
