The Witcher 3 PS5 Version Now Planned for Q4 2022

The Witcher 3 PS5 version will now release in the fourth quarter of 2022, developer CD Projekt Red has announced. The game was originally due out in the second quarter of the year but the developer said in April that it had decided to push the release further.

The Witcher 3 PS5 will be a free upgrade

The official announcement reads:

Let’s make this 7th anniversary even better, shall we? We’re delighted to share that the Next Gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to release in Q4 2022. See you on the Path, witchers!

In April, CD Projekt Red confirmed plans to take control of the free next-gen update. The reins were previously held by Saber Interactive — known for games such as World War Z. The original developers of The Witcher 3 said work was being done on the scope of the new version, hence the delay from Q2.

The developers haven’t announced specifics on the PS5 version. Details on graphic improvements are expected before launch. For now, all we know is that a piece of in-game armor inspired by the game’s Netflix series will be included.

CD Projekt Red has already released a next-gen version of one of their games this year. Cyberpunk 2077, which did not have the best of launches, released a PS5 and Xbox Series X update in February. Some of the improvements in the new version include ray tracing support and faster load times.

In other news, Santa Monica Studio has announced accessibility options for God of War: Ragnarok, including sound effect captions and caption background blur. Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt Williams, who was previously the lead writer of Wolverine at Insomniac Games, has been promoted to the narrative director on the upcoming PS5 exclusive. Following the UK release, folks in the United States can now purchase a Horizon Forbidden West PS5 bundle, subject to availability.
