Biomutant PS5

Report: Biomutant PS5 Version Coming Soon After Appearance on PSN Backend

When Biomutant was first released in May 2021, developer Experiment 101 promised the game would appear natively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S “sometime in the near-ish future”.  While a year later may not be what most people consider to be the “near-ish” future, it does seem like the PS5 version is still in the works and possibly coming soon after it made an appearance on the PSN backend.

A native version of Biomutant on PS5

A PS5 version of Biomutant has made an appearance on the PSN backend with a title ID of PPSA06256_00 and concept ID 229899. As noticed by Reddit, there is also a thumbnail image of the game’s artwork to accompany the listing. It doesn’t come with a release date, but it can be assumed this version of the game will be coming soon. All that Experiment 101 has said is a brief hint on Twitter back in January that there was more to come for the game.

At the moment, Biomutant is only available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While the PS4 version can be played on PS5 thanks to backward compatibility, it will only run at native 1080p at 60 FPS, although it would upscale to 4K at 60 FPS thanks to Dynamic Resolution. In contrast, the Xbox One version would run natively in 4k at 60 FPS. At the time, the developer said native 4K had been deactivated on PS5 “due to stability – and performance – related reasons“. While there are no details on what next-gen benefits a PS5 version will bring, it can be hoped that native 4K will be amongst them.

In other news, Assassin’s Creed Origins will be getting its promised 60fps patch for PS5 and Xbox series X|S players on June 2. Elsewhere, Thursday’s PlayStation State of Play show will be part of this year’s Summer Game Fest.
