Avalanche Studios is Reportedly Developing Ravenbound, A New Roguelike Game

Rumors started emerging earlier this week of a new game from Avalanche Studios, known for Just Cause and Mad Max, only this game sounds quite different. The third-person fantasy roguelike is expected to be called Ravenbound: Tales of Avált, and now a couple of blurry images seem to have added more weight to the rumors.

The rumors surrounding Avalanche Studios

Avalanche Studios’ upcoming game is currently titled Jackdaw according to rumors first reported by eXputer. However, by the time the third-person fantasy roguelike makes it to release it is expected to be called Ravenbound: Tales of Avált. The game takes place in a medieval-esque world called Avalt and the blurry images shared by Twitter user Rebs Gaming seem to back up this information.

The gameplay is described as “Dead Cells but open-world” where players assume their role as a “Vessel of the Raven” who defeats enemies that are invading the world. The Vessel gets its name from to ability to transform into a raven to scout out the land, spotting enemies and judging their difficulty. When a player dies, they must begin all over again as one of three types of Vessel. Each of the three Vessel types is reported to have different abilities and weapons indicated by three trait cards for culture, weapon, and a unique trait. New cards can be gained by leveling up, while loot stolen from enemy settlements can be used to buy and upgrade more cards. The game is reported to have a live service season structure with new quests, enemies, and rewards being added on a monthly basis.

The developer is also making Contraband, an open-world co-op game for Xbox consoles. That is set in the fictional world of Bayan which is more like a 1970s smuggler’s paradise and isn’t to be confused with this rumored game. Avalanche is yet to make any comment.

In other news, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a new asymmetrical multiplayer game coming to PS5 and PS4. Elsewhere, new PS5 covers are now available in starlight blue, nova pink, and galactic purple.
