Gamescom 2022 officially kicks off today but Geoff Keighley returned for a two-hour Opening Night Live show yesterday, bringing a number of announcements and reveals. We were told that Sony isn’t turning up to Gamescom and while the company doesn’t have an official presence at the event, it did surprise fans with the announcement of the DualSense Edge, which is the “PS5 Pro” controller that was rumored for a while. Other than that, there were plenty of announcements for PlayStation platforms. For those of our readers who missed the show or could only watch parts of it, we’ve compiled Gamescom 2022 PlayStation announcements below.
Gamescom 2022 PlayStation highlights
- Grand Theft Auto developer Leslie Benzies finally showed off his next game Everywhere – an open-world game that blends various genres.
- Funcom announced Dune Awakening, an open-world survival MMO.
- The Lords of the Fallen is back, and it’s headed to PS5. It’s a reboot of the 2014 game with “The” added to its title.
- Moving Out 2 was announced without a release date or platforms, but the original landed on PS4 so expect the sequel to head to PS5 at least.
- The rumors were true. Hogwarts Legacy will offer 72-hour early access to Deluxe Edition owners.
- New Tales From the Borderlands will release on PS4 and PS5 on October 21, 2022. And yes, that’s the full title.
- Dying Light 2’s first DLC, Bloody Ties, will release on October 13th.
- Port Royale studio is making Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale for PlayStation. No further details revealed.
- Yes, Sonic Frontiers is indeed releasing on November 8th, the day before God of War Ragnarok.
- Quantic Dream announced narrative-driven game called Under the Waves for PS4 and PS5.
- Return to Monkey Island will release on September 19th.
- Subnautica developer announced sci-fi game Moonbreaker, written by Brandon Sanderson.
- The Lies of P looks even better.
- Stranded: Alien Dawn is a new survival base-building tactical game by the folks behind Surviving Mars.
- Deck13’s action-packed game Atlas Fallen will release in 2023.
- Telltale’s The Expanse will release in summer 2023.
- Killer Klowns From Outer Space is back in multiplayer form for PS4 and PS5.
- Another sci-fi game called Scars Above is “coming soon.” Platforms not confirmed.
- Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas devs are making an open-world RPG called Wydrsong.
- Surprise! Gotham Knights is releasing on October 21, four days earlier than scheduled.
- Where Winds Meet is a new action-RPG set in ancient China.
- Dead Island 2 is actually coming this time.
