Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition Has Floating Wand But May Cost $300

An unboxing video of the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition has shown off a neat “lifelike” wand that hovers above a book, but some fans are shocked by the supposed $300 price tag. While no price has been confirmed for this special edition of the game in the States, information from retailer EB Games in Australia along with some confirmations by Avalanche Software Community Manager Chandler Wood suggest that $300 will be the actual price. Pre-orders for the game, including the Collector’s Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Digital Deluxe Edition, will be available starting tomorrow at 8 am PT / 11 am ET.

Fans criticize the price for the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition

According to the Australian EB Games website, the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition will cost $499.95 AUS, which converts to roughly $350 USD. However, Wood stated in a tweet that this “pricing is not correct in USD” as Australia is a different region and has specific taxes related to video games. He then responded in a separate tweet saying the “pricing is correct for USD” in reference to a GamesRadar article stating that the Collector’s Edition would cost $289 for PC and last-gen consoles and $300 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

At any rate, some fans on Twitter replying to the unboxing video for the Collector’s Edition are disappointed over the supposed $300 price. The most liked responses say that it’s just too expensive or, like the tweet posted above, that it should have contained a soundtrack, an art book, or something else. The wand is admittedly cool to have on a bookshelf, but it is nonetheless an expensive tchotchke.

The other main differences between the Collector’s Edition and the $80 Digital Deluxe Edition are that the Collector’s Edition comes with a box with some fancy artwork, a steel case, and several in-game unlockables like a Kelpie Robe and Dark Arts Garrison Hat. So it would seem that the bulk of the nearly $200 difference is going to the floating wand. That said, we’ll know the price for certain, along with what retailers will offer pre-orders for the game, when they go live tomorrow.
