Fantasy Action RPG Atlas Fallen Inspired by God of War and Horizon

Deck13 Interactive surprised fans at Gamescom 2022 with the reveal of its fantasy action RPG, Atlas Fallen, for the PS5 among other platforms. The studio is known for The Surge and Lords of the Fallen series, both of which are inspired by FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series. However, Atlas Fallen isn’t Souls-like, for a change. Design director Jeremy Hartvick has told VG247 that the team has sought inspiration from Sony’s God of War and Horizon series.

Atlas Fallen will launch with three difficulty modes

Atlas Fallen has been described as a “semi-open world full of ancient mysteries and threats.” Its synopsis mentions hunting legendary monsters with shape-shifting weapons. The campaign can be played solo or cooperatively.

As reported by VG247, Deck13 will launch with three difficulty modes, so it does have something to offer to those who seek a challenge. The studio apparently wants to open up to a whole new audience, but the highest of the three difficulties will cater to those who are “more used to games that the company has created before.” The Adventure Mode is designed for newcomers and those who want to get through the story. Then, there’s the Normal Mode that’s pretty self-explanatory. Finally, there’s the aforementioned Hard Mode.

Not much is known about Atlas Fallen’s protagonist and world beyond what we’ve seen in the trailer above, which certainly does look impressive. More information will be revealed in due course. In the meantime, here’s a brief official description:

Rise from the dust and liberate mankind from the oppression of corrupted gods.

Glide the sands of a timeless land, filled with ancient dangers, mysteries and fragments of the past. Hunt legendary monsters, using powerful, shape-shifting weapons and devastating sand-powered abilities in spectacular, super-powered combat.

Target and gather the essence of your enemies to shape your own custom playstyle, forging a new era for humanity in a fully cooperative or solo story campaign.

Rise from the dust. Unleash the storm.

Atlas Fallen will release in 2023.

In other news, Sony broke some hearts this morning by announcing a PS5 price increase, and Dying Light 2 finally supports up to 120 fps on the PS5.
