God of War Ragnarok Svartalfheim Gameplay Reveals ‘Dwarven Ingenuity’

As a sneak peek to the Nine Realms, God of War Ragnarok Svartalfheim gameplay has been revealed in a short video, showing the sprawling, cavernous cities of the Dwarves. For about thirty seconds in the first look, it shows off the twisted, artificial waterways and daringly engineered structures spread throughout the new area. The video also explains how Kratos and Atreus need to use their combined skills and abilities to traverse the craggy landscape.

Svartalfheim will potentially have “complex environmental puzzles”

In the exclusive first look from GameInformer (video embedded above), we see what the game’s level designers mean when they say that Svartalfheim exemplifies “Dwarven ingenuity.” There will be mine pits, geysers, strange devices, and more that will challenge the duo in getting through the environment unscathed. About halfway through the video, we see Kratos throwing his Way of the Leviathan axe to freeze geysers, destroying pots using his bread and butter Blades of Chaos, and ordering Atreus (who the video calls “boy” but might be called “son” more often by Kratos in this sequel) to activate devices that are out of reach. It also teases that the pair may need to figure out an alternate means of transportation apart from just a canoe to navigate this realm properly.

From some background information to Svartalfheim, it is one of the Nine Realms of the World Tree and serves as the ancestral homeland for the Dwarves and Svartálfar. Odin gave the realm to the Dwarves for services rendered in ages past, and with the land’s resources, they were able to create anything they could set their wiley, inventive minds to. With any luck, we’ll see the brothers Brok and Sindri return as potential allies and tour guides for the region.

While this realm was off-limits and sealed in the original God of War (2018), all nine realms will be open this time around. Past realms that Kratos and Atreus explored in the first game have been redesigned to keep players guessing.

In other news, a God of War Ragnarok x Rick and Morty ad prepares us for the upcoming game, and another gameplay video shows off upgraded combat mechanics and weapon signature moves.
