Disney Plus PS5 App Now Available With 4K Support

A native Disney Plus app for PS5 is finally available, coming with support for 4K HDR playback as promised in August. The prior version of the Disney Plus app for PS4, which could be run on PS5 through backwards compatibility, only supported up to 1080p. Other streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max have 4K support through their native apps on PS5, so this upgrade is just a matter of catching up with the competition.

You may need to re-download the Disney Plus app for PS5

Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design for Disney Streaming, hopes that PS5 fans will appreciate the improvements:

The key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance both Disney+ and Star+ for PS5 users. The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans.

Chances are that if you already have a Disney Plus subscription, you have the PS4 version of the app on the PS5. If so, you’ll need to head to the Media tab of the PS5 homepage and re-download the new native client to stream your favorite Disney shows in 4K. The new Star Plus app is based on native PS5 code and can be downloaded in the Latin America region.

Thankfully, the upgrade comes right on time for users to watch the first season of Andor, the finale for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Hocus Pocus 2 at a suitably high resolution.
