The Sims 4 Free to Play

How to Download The Sims 4 Free-to-Play on PS5, PS4

The base game of The Sims 4 has gone free-to-play for all platforms including PS5 and PS4, as previously announced by EA in September this year (via GameRevolution). You’ll still need to pay full price for additional expansion packs, typically around $40-50 a pop for major ones, but the full base game is now available for download without you needing to pay a dime. This transition coincides with the announcement of The Sims 5 as Project Rene.

How to download the free-to-play version of The Sims 4

It’s not that complicated this time around. All you need to do is to find “The Sims 4” by searching the PlayStation Store and make sure you’ve got the hard drive space for it.

That said, you might get some extra content depending on several factors. If you have an EA Play subscription, you can instead download The Sims 4 EA Play Edition, which comes with the Get to Work expansion.

Additionally, if you owned a copy of the game before its transition to free-to-play, you can claim the Desert Luxe Kit for free until October 17. It’s admittedly not a lot of content, as it only costs $4.99 (when it’s not free), but it comes with neutral-colored furniture meant to fit a Southwestern desert backyard vibe.

The full download for The Sims 4 stands a rather hefty 11.09 GB and is tailored for the PS4. The EA Play Edition of the game is slightly larger at 12.82 GB.
