The dev of PSVR games like Blood & Truth and PlayStation VR Worlds, London Studio, drops PSVR altogether to make an unannounced PS5 online co-op fantasy combat game. The main reason for this is so the studio can continue to innovate, exploring “new avenues” and setting themselves new challenges.
What we know about the PS5 online fantasy combat game
The online co-op combat game currently doesn’t have a name but it is set in a modern fantasy London. The game’s “overarching theme is about bringing fantastical and magical elements and intersecting that with familiar worlds”, and the studio decided to set the game in the city most familiar to them. Unlike previous PSVR titles (like Blood & Truth) or games like Singstar from the dev, this game drops PSVR and other peripherals in favor of taking full advantage of the PS5’s exclusive features.
Co-studio head Tara Saunders told GamesIndustry.biz it will be their “most ambitious game to date.” Fellow co-studio head Stuart Whyte explained more:
With this project, we really wanted to explore some new avenues and set ourselves some new challenges. We definitely wanted to try something a little bit different, and I think this new project really channels our ‘brave’ value and allows us to push ourselves on the ‘curious’ front, too. It’s an exciting future, it really is.
The live-service game is one of 12 live-service games Sony currently hopes to release by 2025. In fact, Sony is currently increasing its investment in live service, PC, and mobile games.
